We work across Wales to help people overcome barriers and get the support they need to move forward with their lives. By enabling people in local communities to become empowered and get the skills they need to transform their lives, we are able to help others make the same changes. We work across a wide area encompassing both the inner city and rural communities. Our services are delivered in close collaboration with local partners, addressing local needs distinct to each community.
Funded through The National Lottery Community Fund, the Peer Hubs offer a structured package of training and support through the Peer Advisor Programme to people who have overcome adversity to help them build skills to access employment opportunities and help others make the same positive progress. By harnessing their lived experience, coupled with professional training, we can offer highly credible services which are able to engage excluded individuals and communities. The Peer Hubs work in close partnership with local partners who offer placements to the Peer advisors.
Through SOS Newport, we are offering early interventions and support for young people, their families and communities affected by gangs and serious violence. This involves one-to-one casework, intervention and prevention and building community resilience through offering training to professionals.
Support from Children in Need has enabled us to develop CLIC (county lines in Cardiff) which helps children, adolescents and young people in Cardiff get the help they need to leave county lines exploitation and rebuild their lives. It offers intensive support to young people to help minimise risk, ensure safeguarding and help them access positive opportunities around education, training and employment.
We support families to overcome barriers such as housing problems, debt and long-term unemployment to help them move towards independence. This work plugs the gap often left by statutory services at a time when their resources are limited.
Through the Community Rehabilitation Company we are working in prisons across Wales helping serving prisoners get the help they need. We aim to increase the chances of successful integration into the community when released and minimise the likelihood of re-offending. Our Peer Advisor Programme underlines this work through training serving prisoners to help other inmates. Further information is available on this work here.
